Test Your Happiness

IMG_4306Test Your Happiness. What exactly is happiness? And why does it evade so many folks? Happiness is a state of mind. It evades because it requires a constant commitment and re-commitment to be happy. There are various degrees of happiness and on a happiness scale of 1 to 10, folks are at every number. What makes such a difference in our degrees of happiness?
It does not matter because we are going to look at happiness at the individual level. We will have a frank conversation with Self with respect to our happiness because this is where we all need to start. From this exercise you will have a numeric value that you can identify with as your happy place right now. Here is our exercise.

First, ask yourself how do you feel about your happiness right now because we must establish baseline. Do you feel not happy, happy, very happy or extremely happy. Self will respond. Wait for the answer. It may take some time for you to process what Self is saying to you. On the scale of 1 to 10 assign yourself a number that reflects your current state of happiness.

Second, how happier would you like to be? Because this is called your happy place, you are working on getting there. Again, with self introspection you dig deep inside of you to ask and answer this question. On the scale of 1 to 10 assign yourself a number for your happy place.

Third, ask yourself what are some of the things that will help you to get there? What are some of the things you can change to get you there? Are  there some  things you can eliminate  because this will get you there? What are some of things you can add to get you there? Again, have the talk with Self. The answers will come. Note that some of these things can be relationships or persons. On a scale of 1 to 10 assign a number that reflects these things in-progress or completed.

Fourth, think about and ask yourself the question, what it will mean for you when you get to your happy place. Write is down and “make it plain.” Now it’s time to ponder and dream of what this place will look like and mean for you. How will it change your perception and life in general?  Do you believe you are at your assigned number in the second step? If not how close are you? Write that number down.

Go back and start the exercise again as many times as necessary for you because this is about helping you move forward. You may not get there right away but keep working on it as it is possible to arrive there. Because this is about you getting to your happy place, don’t give up. Keep working at it until you believe you are in a state of happiness that is satisfactory to you.

Add up your scores. If you scored 20 or more you are getting to your happy place.
